Context

Feeney got inspiration to write this book when she was in the exact same situation in 2018, including a face appearing in the window. It turned out to be the caretaker for the property to see if they were okay, but it spawned this idea for the book.

My Waffling

I loved all the POV's we got from this book. The wife, husband, the letters and then eventually Robin. It was all amazing, and the twist literally gave me goosebumps - I gasped in the middle of the street.

When I finished the book, I immediately wanted to reread it knowing the ins and outs of what was actually going on. That can't be said for a lot of thrillers, due to knowing the twist it feels a bit 'one and done'. But not for this one - it made me sad that I wasn't reading an actual book. I found it in a charity shop a week or two after I listened to this, so now I have the hardback for £2. I think that's proper good going.

I could not stand the repetition of Adam's face blindness being bought up. It happened minimum twice every chapter and it made me so angry. I don't like being treated like I am stupid and forgetting major details about a character. I also didn't like how it was used as an excuse for all of his behaviour, making it seem like he didn't even recognise smells or voices.

I think that I wasn't on either characters side throughout the book, but I just wanted to see where it was going.

I do not think this would translate well into a show or film like other book reviews are saying.

After this one, I listened to all of Alice Feeney's work, and I can confidently say this is her best work.

4/5
